An awareness Program was carried out on 15th December 2023 a presentation of the Sexual Offences Act under the Women’s Empowerment Program in association with the District Legal Services Authority of Kalimpong. The resource person was Advocate Roshni Rai & Shri Hem Kumar Gurung, Para Legal Volunteer from DLSA Kalimpong was also present.
The Act protects children below the age of 18years from Sexual Assault, sexual harassment and phonography.
It is a gender neutral Act and the victim as well as the offender can be either boys or girls below the age of 18years.
The act seeks to provide stringent punishment to those engaging in Sexual crimes against children, death penalty in cases of aggravated sexual assault, and levying fines and imprisonment to curb child ponography.
