24/10/24 Rotary Club of Kalimpong celebrated World Polio Day by contributing to the Polio Fund. All Rotarians need to keep contributing until polio is finally eradicated from the face of Planet Earth. Our country was declared polio free on 27th March 2014, but endemic cases have been increasing just across the border in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Our club put up ‘End Polio’ flyers in strategic places in town especially at business concerns of Kalimpong Rotarians. We also had a special World Polio Day Board Meeting post our regular weekly meeting. Rotary Club of Kalimpong is blessed to have its own centre thanks to our donors Rn Khem Pradhan Fatimi, Ma Bose (the mother of Rotarian Indira Bose) and the efforts of senior Rotarians as well as not so senior ones too. So yes, our WM was in our meeting hall while our BM was in our lounge. Our club’s one and only Major Donor, PP Rn Prakash Gupta explained to us the importance of donating and also the history of Rotary’s involvement/advocacy in working towards eradication of Polio. Earlier this deadly disease could only be controlled but when WHO approached Rotary leaders for assistance in trying to aim for eradication our wonderful organisation has gone full throttle to end polio forever. Rotary International has spent more than USD 2.6 billion and countless volunteer hours to fight this deadly disease.
If not for this effort just imagine the number of people who would have been paralysed by polio.
