Members of RC Kalimpong in association with KHS, (Kalimpong Horticultural Society), World Bank Project and Disha VTC (Vocational Training Centre) visited Bidyang Village on 8/7/24 to meet with the stakeholders of this area. The idea of turning Bidyang into a model village is being mooted. This area supplies 95% of the local vegetables available in Kalimpong according to Mr Nakul Rai, a farmer of that area. The team also visited a mini trout farm belong to Arpan Lepcha. He has a regular buyer for his mature trout but he didn’t know who they were. This was being done through the aegis of NGOs. A poly house built by the World Bank had sadly become dysfunctional post covid. Paddy cultivation which is slowly dying out in surrounding villages is still practiced ardently here according to the representatives present. In fact, there were many absentees because it was the peak season of paddy cultivation. Another meeting has been scheduled for after the 15th of August. A committee was formed for ease of communication with the stewards of the NGOs preset at the meeting. LThe President of RC Kalimpong, Rtn Sheila Rai Fudong spoke about RI and the service it provides to communities all over the world. How grants could be applied for on the basis of community needs assessment. And also the sponsoring of RCCs (Rotary Committee Corps)
